Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
It is a beautiful set of 6 Danish 18-19th century spoons. Such antique spoons are being offered at auction on a regular basis.
The shape of the spoons is known as violin-shaped spoons. The marks are with Copenhagen town marks and for the maker Niels Ebbesen, working from 1812-1847. The decoration of the spoons is very typical of this particular type of spoons. They appear to be in good condition considering the age. I have not been able to find the other maker - but perhaps you could upload a better picture of that makers mark? The town mark appears to be from 1789.
The estimate provided is for a well-advertised specialised online silver auction, where I believe the violinshaped spoons has the best chance of realising its fullest potential. However, there is no measurement for the sentimental value you might attach to the Danish silver spoons. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions. I’m happy to help.
Thank you
Dear Tracy,
Could you perhaps take a few additional photos of the unknown mark - then I will try to look into what I can find.
Thanks
Thanks for the nice appraisals. I am curious about the unknown makers mark. The town Mark is clearly 1780’s. The maker appears to be VIOL or YIOL. The IOL part is clear but the first letter is more difficult sort of a fancy Y. If you can identify it let me know. Thanks
