The appraised work appears to be a color silkscreen poster print of British artist David Hockney's 1981 commission for the Metropolitan Opera House in New York. The image depicts a Harlequin figure performing onstage against a brightly colored background. In 1979-80, Hockeny was invited to design the stage sets for Erik Satie's 'Parade' and two other short operas. The artist created a canvas painting, on which he based the design for this poster. The works centered on the world of circuses and street fairs, which Hockney took as as his primary inspiration. The estimate provided is based on comparables recently offered and sold at auction.
