I got the painting at a garage sale many years ago. I can't find a name on the painting. The painting was done on canvas and is in good condition, no scratches or chips, but the frame has areas where some of the gold has come off.
15 1/2 x 11 1/2 from the front of the painting. not sure how much is under the frame.
Hello,
The artwork in question is an unsigned oil painting on canvas, titled descriptively as Tree by the Water’s Bank. It measures approximately 15.5 x 11.5 inches, though actual dimensions may slightly vary if the canvas is further extended beneath the ornate frame. Based on the imagery and technique, this painting appears to be a mid-20th century decorative landscape, a popular genre in both American and European interiors during that period. The painting is executed in a traditional style, emphasizing romanticized natural scenery with a calm, slightly muted palette, likely intended for domestic decoration rather than formal exhibition.
The condition of the painting itself is good, with no visible scratches, tears, or major surface losses. The frame, while complementary in an ornate, gilded style typical of mid-century reproductions or revival pieces, does show signs of age with some loss of gilding. Given the absence of a signature or identifiable artist mark, the work should be classified within the decorative art market rather than the fine art investment market. Paintings of this nature were often produced either by talented amateur artists or in studio settings, sometimes for department stores or furniture showrooms.
