The diamond was purchased in Amsterdam somewhere in the mid 70'ies. The gold ring was my mother's engagement ring purchased in Perth, Australia ... she lost the original diamond.

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
It is a beautiful ring. Such antique rings are being offered at auction on a regular basis.
What a pity your mother lost the original diamond. It cannot have been attached properly as diamonds are not supposed to fall out of a ring. I presume that the stone in the ring is a diamond too. It is very hard to tell from the pictures. My appraisal is based on the stone being a diamond approx. 0,7 ct. The ring looks as if it is made of 14 kt yellowgold. The ring has some signs of wear and use which would be expected as it is from the 1970s.
The design of the ring is very typical from this era.
The estimate provided is for a well-advertised specialised online jewellery auction, where I believe the ring has the best chance of realising its fullest potential. However, there is no measurement for the sentimental value you might attach to the diamond ring. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions. I’m happy to help.
