The presented object appears to be a Navy model percussion revolver by E. Whitney. It has an octagonal barrel with a length of 7 5/8 inches. The barrel is stamped "E. Whitney N Haven". The serial number is #18191.
This piece is in medium condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.

If I were to have it cleaned up would it hurt the value
The serial number is 18191
I added more photographs. The serial number on the rear of the cylinder matches the serial number on the loader and barrel. There are two B’s stamped on the barrel and a Y. On the trigger guard there is another B. The cylinder appears to have some type of engraving but I can not get a good picture.
