Both the back and seat are padded and upholstered with a soft brown toned fabric with subdued pattern. The arms and legs are carved wood, the arms being curved. The carving is pretty - swirls and wheat shapes. The front legs are quite ornate, the back very plane. The seat fabric is very well worn. From below you can see that the seat is stuffed with grass that is held in place by burlap and twine. There are metal springs supporting the stuffing. The upholstery is secured under the chair with small black nails. The edge of the seat has larger nail heads that are also for decorative effect. The fabric on the chair back entirely covers the back, so that no nails or wood can be seen. This chair was obtained from a woman who said it had belonged to her friend's mother, both of whom have passed. That is the only history known.
42 inches high at the back, 24.25 inches wide at the front legs, 19.25 inches wide at the back legs, arms are as tall as 27.75 inches, seat with padding is 20 inches high.
