Hi Grace,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Founded in 1990, EJ Victor was established by Edward W. Phifer III, Joseph B. Manderson and John Victor Jokinen. The company built a reputation for fine craftsmanship, producing high-end wood and upholstered furniture. Their catalog included bedroom, dining, occasional pieces, and custom pieces.
Collaborations with big-name brands and designers - licensed collections and partnerships with such well-known names as Ralph Lauren Home, Kate Spade, Kelly Wearstler, Alfredo Paredes, and others - boosted the company's recognition and appeal among consumers.
The Newport Collection is one of EJ Victor’s luxury, historically inspired furniture lines — sometimes described as “Newport Mansions / Newport Historic / Newport Collection.” Its aesthetic draws heavily on 18th-/19th-century European-inspired classical and neoclassical design: carved details, inlays, veneering, and sometimes painted or ornamented surfaces.
In late 2024, the company suffered a major blow when its factory was flooded during Hurricane Helene — damaging inventory and halting production. Around the same time, they also had a serious dispute with their insurance provider, which denied coverage; the company filed a lawsuit against Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company.
As a result, in November 2024, the company laid off essentially its entire workforce (about 121 employees), retaining only a small administrative staff.
By July 2025, after settling with the insurer, company leadership announced that they would not resume operations. The shareholders decided to liquidate company assets. The liquidation is expected to complete by the end of 2026.
The marquetry and parquetry veneer on the top is stunning but what really draws my eye is the applied giltwood swag and boss carving on the frame in my opinion, it really elevates this table and provides a seamless continuity from the top to the reeded or fluted legs.
Because of the liquidation, a lot of EJ Victor furniture is being sold very inexpensively. If you're thinking of selling this, you are likely to be facing competition from consumers who may be able to get a similar table for only a couple of hundred dollars where it would normally be worth a few thousand dollars ($2,000-3,000) on the secondary market. Unless you have to sell it, I would wait to see if the market bounces back (it may not but at least you'll know if you made a mistake to sell at this particular moment).
