Russian enameled spoon?
great grandmother
Dear Mark,
Thank you for submitting this sterling silver, enamel spoon to Mearto. While I can make out the profile hallmark, I cannot see the other two clearly. Would it be possible to upload a detailed image of just the thee hallmarks?
Most Sincerely,
Erin-Marie
I understand, give me a bit to work with this and I'll have your evaluation posted just as soon as I can.
Cheers,
Erin-Marie
Dear Mark - Forgive me for taking a bit longer to complete your evaluation than expected. I am going to give you a conservative value on your Russian Enamel spoon because like you, I cannot make out the additional marks which would relate to the silversmith and area of manufacture. Because the enamel work is fine and in what appears to be pristine condition, if the silversmith is a top tier maker you could find this piece to be considerably more valuable than my estimate.
Similar spoons have sold at auction average between $800USD and $1000USD, but in this case, I recommend taking this piece to an independent specialist appraiser who can properly clean the two remaining hallmarks and ascertain the maker. Please do not try to clean these impressions yourself as it may damage the enamel which would effect the overall value.
If you have any follow-up questions regarding this, please let me know.
Most Sincerely,
Erin-Marie
Erin- Marie,
Thank you, I will find a local appraiser to further investigate, I do have one more question that you may be able to help with and that is the reasoning for the spoon to be angleled or offset of the handle, of all the spoons I could find online I didn't see any like it. What is the purpose? Thanks again for all you help
hope this helps, about the best I can get
