This pair of English Sterling Candelabra's were purchased by my Grandfather on a trip to England in the Late 19th Century. He was told they were from the late 18th Century. They had the English Silver markings on base of each (no pictures of this they were destroyed in the Wolsey fire). They were beyond beautiful a always were on our table for any family gathering.
They were owned by my Grandfather, who bought them from a dealer in the late 19th century.
Thank you for submitting your item for appraisal. Based on your description this appears to be a pair of english sterling silver late victorian candelabra. There is hardly any chance to positively identify the maker. The style with flowing twisted fluted arms is rather common, the beautiful accanthus leaf design on the shaft would speak for one of the better silversmiths. The estimate is based on auction results for similar quality candelabra sold at auction. The retail or insurance value would have been double the high estimate. There is no measurement for the sentimental value the candelabra represented to you. I hope you will be able to cope with the loss eventually.
