Hi Alfred,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
London's Goldsmiths & Silversmith's Co was founded in 1880 by William Gibson (d. 1913) and John Lawrence Langman (1846–1928), they took over the premises of John Joseph Mechi at 112 Regent Street. In 1898, they incorporated as The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co Ltd, expanding their trade to jewelry, watches, diamond dealing, silverware, electroplated wares, and clocks.
Centerpiece bowls come in a variety of shapes and sizes - and served a few different purposes - but ones with a grill on top were specifically designed for floral arranging, with the grill top providing support for stems and bulbs.
Comparable centerpiece bowls of this form and vintage - by Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co and other makers - have sold at auction recently for prices ranging from $500-$2,000 depending on the size; this one would be appropriately valued at auction for between $1,200-1,800. Note this price is a fair-market value, for auction purposes, and will likely be lower than any listed retail price you might find online, either by a private seller or licensed dealer.
