Dear Karen,
Thank you for your help and patience.
The presented object appears to be a transition percussion lock rifle made in the 19th century. The lockplate was decorated with engravings and there is no stamp or maker mark visible. This rifle was made as a flintlock rifle and was changed in the 19th century. It was made in the late 18th and early 19th century in North America.
Comparable objects were recently offered and sold on the international auction market.
This piece is in bad condition and there is damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 150 to 350 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
George

I took pictures but as you can see most of the areas are dirty and you can't see anything. is there a safe way for me to clean them so you can see better?
