Forged saber/knife
Metal forged knife. 14 inches total length, blade is 9.25 inches. The handle is shaped like a bird of some sort. It has a star stamped in the middle of the handle as well as a “V” at the blade end of the handle on both sides. Weighs a little over 12 ounces.
Found it in a ditch.

Thank you for submitting your item for appraisal. The knife blade has the shape of a bowie knife, the handle ist made from cast aluminum, the quality of execution is that of an amateur folk art artist. Star and Eagle would point to the USA at a point in history when there was a larger supply of excess Aluminum. Which would narrow the search to your neighborhood, the prisoner of war camp in West Helena in 1946. This might have been a present of a german or italian prisoner of war to his former captors. The estimate is based on similar items sold at auction, but with the local history attached to the knife it might be higher.
