Forgiveness - one of a series of work begun by Lyle Morris and assisted and worked together on series 2. Each painting is Oil on Canvas and 30x40
This painting along with several others of this series, were exhibited at Gallery 91, Memphis TN, and The Botanical Gardens Exhibit, The Beacham Fine Art Gallery, and the Midsouth Art Gallery Bartlett, TN. Two paintings from this series we recently sold at auction by Hanna's Hope in Mississippi in the amount of $6,000.00
Good morning, Frederick Lyle Von Thrauthemburg,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
I'm a bit confused - there are a total of 5 works in a series titled "Forgivemess"? Are you the artist/what is your connection to the artist?
How large are these and can you please provide the link to the auction at Hanna's Hope?
Thanks!
Delia
This painting along with the entire series are Oil on Canvas, 30x40 each. Each painting sold for $6,0000.00 each. Other paintings from this series that have already sold are: "The Prayer" a paintings of a Nun, two men embracing titled "the Embrace", "Deep Blue" a whale painting and the execution of Queen Mary titled "The Execution". The painting titled "The Embrace" sold to WKNO Gallery 91 (private sale) while the remaining sold during our 2019 Exhibit with the group "4Sights" exhibited at Gallery 91, Memphis, TN. I am including this information as part of a history for this painting and will include it again when I submit each painting. Each painting sold for $2,000.00 to $6,000.00 I will provide the actual sells price for each painting with each individual appraisal request.
The values Mearto provides are fair-market, and for auction. Retail sales prices from galleries are typically considered only when auction sales are not available, and are usually at least 2-3 times higher than auction / fair-market values.
so that I am sure I understand you, are you saying these paintings would have a fair market value of $10,000 - $12,000.00 or would it be best listed for sale for $8,000.00
No. I am saying that the gallery price are higher.
If something sold in a gallery for $6,000, I would say an auction estimate would be $2,000-3,000.
hank you for the clarification - I have perhaps 300 oil paintings I will be sending for appraisal, I will send as much information, historical reference as possible for each.
This painting and a group of others were donated to St. Elisabeth's Interfaith Episcopal Church, 7157 Summer ave, Bartlett, TN, Feb 2020, this group of paintings were then sold at auction at the listed prices of each listed at Mearto, this group of paintings was then sold to a private collector D. Keith for $5,000 each when purchasing the entire collection. In 2022, the estate of D. Keith deeded the group of paintings to the Arts Ministry to be auctioned for a charity endeavor. In 2023 the Arts Ministry donated the group of paintings to Sobriety Memphis and we auctioned at the Memphis Botanical Garden Charity Auction to various individuals.
I saw this before I saw the inquiry for " The Wedding".
Retail prices are typically considered quite a bit higher than the fair-market (or auction) values Mearto provides. If the works sold at Hanna's Hope were comparable in size, medium and subject to these, and if two works sold for $6,000 at auction ($3,000 each?) I would assign a fair-market value of $2,000-3,000 for each of these works.
