This is a fossil that was found at a lake in Galveston, TX. The person who found it believed it was a dinosaur bone. I can't really speak to the condition of it, but it appears to have different layers. As best as I can tell, there appears to be bone, connective tissue, and skin. The pattern of skin doesn't really look like anything I can tell. Any help would be appreciated. I took the best measurements I could, but it is not the easiest thing to measure.
9.75 in long, 5.5 in wide, 4 in height
Petrified Wood Example
mid-Holocene or Earlier
North America, Gulf of Mexico
Petrified wood can be identified by its natural colors, smooth edges, and wood-dried sap. Some pieces may have wood or bark patterns, and smaller pieces may be transparent. I believe this example shows visible burn marks or "fire scars" indicating the wood was charred before being petrified. It appears that their is a significantly darkened or blackened appearance on the example's outer surface, with a charred texture, while still retaining the characteristic wood grain patterns and potential mineral coloration typical of petrified wood. It is a great example of the regions petrified wood. It does not have the mineralization and color of other geologic areas fossilized wood sections. This is because the minerals and surrounding area will reflect the crystallization and saturation of the elements int eh surface area matrix surrounding it. Example measures 9.75" x 5.5" x 4"; 4.7lbs.

Hello, Matthew,
Thank you for your submission. I'm going to look into this item. It is difficult to tell, from images alone, if it is biological or geological. It could be a section of petrified fire- burned wood. Or, a possible animal partial fossil; but I do not think it would be as old as an animal from the pre- Cretaceous Period. Please give me some time and I will give you my best answer, FMV, and possible resources.
Thank you, Amber
Thank you! If it helps, it weighs 5.7 lbs.
