Religious picture , Saint Louis, with full glass front, 20 inches high 18-1/2 wide 3 inches thick
From my girl friend father originally from Belgium
This is an antique late 18th century to early 19th century, Georgian style, silk embroidery or needlepoint over a color print of Saint Louis that was sold through the dealer and framer, P.F. Lybaert in the later 19th century. The silk embroidered picture is in a gilded wood frame. Saint Louis was King Louis IX of France from 1214 - 1270. He was a devout Catholic and leader in a number of Crusades. He also commissioned the building of Sainte Chapelle in Paris. He was canonized a saint in 1297. Silk embroideries over hand tinted prints were a popular past time among ladies in the 18th and in to the early 19th centuries. The estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail 'asking prices' can be higher and vary.
