I rescued a collection a while back that was being tossed and among the collection were these 4 original paintings of female characters, some with their original names (Black Widow, Lockhead Lightning) written in cursive at the bottom and Freddy Hellmich signature painted on each one. I've done quite a bit of research on him. Freddy was a prominent animator and artist for Disney and Hanna Barbara and worked on such masterpieces as Disney's Jungle Book, Sword in the Stone, Bedknobs and Broomsticks and cult classic, Heavy Metal, among dozens of others. He died in South Korea as an animation supervisor and liaison at Disney Korea. There is a California address on the back of one of them that AI linked to a studio for the era he worked at. I also live about a 1/4 mile outside of Camden, NJ, where Freddy is from, so I'm thinking it was part of private collection or personal project of his. Unfortunately, they were damaged when I found them in a dumpster outside of a nursing home community. The thick cardboard they are painted on is creased from being folded in half. They were with many other high-value collectibles and documents so it's possible they belonged to hardcore collector before they passed away.

Hello, this item is a set of four original character paintings by Freddy Hellmich, also known as Fred C. Hellmich, an American animator and illustrator active in the mid to late twentieth century. The works are executed on thick illustration board and depict stylized female characters consistent with pin up and fantasy figure aesthetics associated with animation studios and commercial illustration of the 1950s to 1970s. Each composition bears a hand signed Freddy Hellmich signature, and the drawing style, line quality, and coloration align with known studio and personal works produced by Hellmich during and after his professional involvement with major animation studios. The format, character design, and presentation strongly indicate original concept or personal character studies rather than later reproductions or printed material.
Condition shows clear structural issues, most notably creasing from folding and handling damage to the board, which materially affects market value despite the originality and attribution. From a market standpoint, Freddy Hellmich original artworks trade primarily within the animation art and illustration collector market rather than the fine art auction sector. Comparable single original character works by studio animators of this level typically achieve between USD 600 and USD 1,200 per sheet in good condition. Given the set format but also the visible damage, the realistic current market value for the group as a whole is approximately USD 1,800 to USD 3,000.
