What does this mean?

Hello. Thank you for your appraisal inquiry with MeArto. The item presented appears to be a bronze reproduction sculpture after Frederic Remington (American; 1861-1909) titled "The Norther." Remington was a painter, illustrator and sculptor who is best known for his American Old West depictions of cowboys and Native Americans.

This work was original created in 1900. However, it has been reproduced throughout the years in many materials including bronze, brass, resin and more. This sculpture is marked 22 of an edition of 100. Remington's original bronze sculptures were not marked in such a way. They were numbered simply "1", "2", "3", and so on according to the amount that were cast. These edition numbers were located to the underside fo the sculpture.

The estimate provided is based on recent auction estimates and result of this sculpture and other bronze reproduction sculptures after Remington.

Hi,

Dear Sara s,

Thanks for the appraisal but I was expecting better estimation value for my item.

The same item in the internet was sold for more than USD 2,000 in US auction I attached screenshot of the item sold and there is one still on and asking price is USD2,700 and if you see my item compare to other mine is in better shape, you can see the details and pictures of the other in the internet.

Can you please re-estimate my item, because the USD 500 that you estimate my item is usually for smaller size like 10-12 inches hight my item is bigger 23 inches hight and it should be more than USD1,000 as we can see the same size was sold for more than USD 2,100?

I would like to know also the year of this sculpture made if possible

Your kind attention and cooperation is highly appreciated

Kuya Al

Hello Kuya.

Would you mind providing the link to the auction listing you mention, please? I may be able to provide some insight to the information within the listing.

Please know that the estimate provided is a fair market value and is based on recent auction estimates and results of this item. Any asking or "buy now" prices vary greatly and are not a clear reflection of fair market value of the item. Further, the date of any auction listing is very relevant. The art market is always in flux and is effected by any financial recessions.

Below are a few auction listings with hammer prices, that I referred to in order to valuation your item. There were many more recent listings with the item passing (not being sold or meeting the low estimate).

Hi
Sara S
Sorry I couldn't find the one sold may be it was deleted.
But I found few Frederic Remington the norther for sale and the asking price is triple your estimated price,

Below link, The asking price is USD2000+.

https://www.etsy.com/listing/746035862/frederic-remington-norther-bronze?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=frederic+remington&ref=sr_gallery-1-1

Below link The asking price is USD2700+.

Below link the auction house Estimated $2,235 - $4,470.

https://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/81663190_very-rare-large-norther-bronze-by-frederic-remington

Below link is to order brand new is USD1,800+ (the making and material not same as the old one)

https://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/81663190_very-rare-large-norther-bronze-by-frederic-remington

The item is very rare specially if old one with perfect condition, mine seems clean and good qaulity making. The previous owner was old japanese and the no. 22 out of 100 means there less chance to find same quality and clean as the I had.

The estimation in the internet is more than tripple your estimation I think becasue its hard to find an old good one with the same quality my item has.

Thanks & regards
Kuya Al

Hi
This is the link if someone want to buy new one

It will cost USD1800 but the question is it the same quality as the old one ?
https://shop.fredericremington.org/collections/sculpture-reproductions/products/133?variant=372457907

What I am trying to say if a buyer want to look for the norther he will find these available in internet with these prices

If buyer want it for USD500 then he should compromise on quality
Thanks

Hello Kuya.

So, here are some insights to the listing you provided -
1. The Etsy, Ebay, and Frederic Remington Art Museum listings are all retail price, not a fair market estimate. No one has been willing to pay those prices for the item.
2. The Liveauctioneer listing has been offered multiple times on that platform from that same dealer (link below). Which means, the bidder refused to pay out on the auction. Further, the item is not properly estimated and the listing is misleading, causing the refusal of payment.

https://www.liveauctioneers.com/search/?keyword=Very%20Rare%20Large%20Norther%20Bronze%20by%20Frederic%20Remington&sort=-relevance&status=archive

As an auction specialist, I would not say this sculpture is "rare." That would be misleading. I have auctioned this sculpture several times. Additionally, there are 100 in this one edition and multiple posthumous editions and reproduction of "The Norther." A "rare" example of this world would be lifetime examples of this work that Remington produced himself.

Again, I would like to be clear that the estimate provided is a fair market auction estimate for the item. Any retail, private, dealer prices are vary greatly. MeArto does not offer dealer prices.
