Klingenthal inscribed 1823 sword with scabbard.
Handed down from French ancestry parent. Never been exhibited.
Dear Tim,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. My sincere apologies for the delay with the apprisal.
The presented object appears to be a French Model 1822 cavalry officer's sword coming with the scabbard. This sword has a curved blade, an etched remark by the manufacturer Klingenthal and is dated 1823. The officer's version differs from the normal version in the engraved brass sword hilt and handguard.
Comparable swords were offered and sold regularly and in higher numbers on the international auction market.
This piece is in medium condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 500 to 1.000 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
With kind regards,
George
