Hi Jennifer,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Noritake was one of the most popular names for dinnerware in the mid 20th Century; not only was it handsome and serviceable but it was also comparatively affordable. Increasingly few people today, however, entertain in such a formal way and the market is saturated with services of varying sizes, colors, etc. Because there is less demand than supply, fair-market / auction prices for Noritake remain low, typically bringing $4-8 PER PIECE.
While you have a relatively small service with few serving pieces (platters, tureens, serving bowls, etc), the fact that you have the same (and even) number of place pieces (plates, bowls, cups), benefits its value, which I've appraised at about $6-9/piece
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
A vintage 70-piece Noritake parcel gilt porcelain part dinner service for 12
In the "Goldwyn" pattern (#6244), made in Japan, bearing the wreathed Nippon Toki "N" backstamp in use from 1953, comprising:
12 dinner plates
12 salad plates
12 soup bowls
12 cups with 12 saucers
1 large oval serving platter
3 smaller oval serving platters
3 serving bowls
1 gravy or sauce boat
1 cream pitcher
1 covered sugar bowl
CONDITION: This set appears to be in good condition; value assumes no chips, breaks, repairs or losses.
PROVENANCE: Acquired in Japan in 1960
$425-625 for the set*
*represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary.
