Approx. 25"x 32" on stretched canvas, appears to be an oil painting. Original with no signature anywhere. Has 2" x 1" tear with piece missing, staining and large 9" scratch to the top.
My late husband had it in his collection when we first got together, over 38 years ago, and had no history on it. He found it at a flea market.
This is a vintage, 20th century, about 1940 - 1950s, original 25" x 32" painting on canvas depicting a half length portrait of the multi-hyphenate American cowboy performer, singer, actor, Gene Autry (1907 -1998). The painting is unsigned and it is done in an illustrative style that would be found on magazine covers or on posters. This was likely never published, for if it were, there would be publisher and printing notes affixed or written on the backside. This would have had a significantly higher sale value a few decades ago. Much like Shirley Temple collectibles, the generation who connects to or is nostalgic for these past popular culture icons has mostly passed. The estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail 'asking prices' can be higher and vary.
