Pretty bad condition. Very dirty (I think it is anyway) Looks like it's been repaired a time or two. Nice bright colors on the people. Oil? on canvas.
42.5 inches by 30.5 inches in frame. 35.5 inches by 23.5 inches showing.
Dear Gary Anderson,
Thank you for your appraisal submission. The work is an Impressionist style oil painting on canvas. It depicts a winter street scene with pedestrians in early-20th century dress. The work is in fair condition with discoloration to the surface, stretcher marks to the margins, and cracking throughout. According to the information provided, the work may have been previously repaired. The measurements are 42.5 x 30.5 inches in frame with a sight of 35.5 x 23.5 inches. A signature to the lower right reads "Martanez," however it is unattributable. Neither the surname, nor the signature style matches any listed artist. Despite this, the painting is likely dated to the late 20th century.
As an unattributed work, the Fair Market Value of this painting is estimated in consideration of similar street scene paintings. Modernist style street scenes of this type are common on the art market and popular within the commercial trade. Commercial paintings such as this are often made by unattributable artists, or artists using pseudonyms. In addition to comparisons of similar compositions, the Fair Market Value estimate considers size and quality. For example, a modernist style street scene oil painting by an unknown artist sold around $625 within the past week; a modernist style street scene oil painting of similar size by a listed artist sold around $400 within the last month. Based on these and other trends, we estimate the Fair Market Value of this work between $200 and $500.
Thank you again for your submission. Please leave a comment below if you have any questions about this report.
Kind regards,
