Punch Bowl - 1886, approx. 18 inches long, 13 inches wide, 11.5 inches tall, weight - 190ozs
1886
Dear Richard,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. So that I may best assist you, can you please upload a few better images of the silver hallmarks.
With kind regards,
Georg
Georg, have you got an update for us? Thanks.
Dear Richard,
I am very sorry. I thought I sent you the appraisal already but it is not displayed. I fear a technical issue did not save and sent my estimation.
This punch bowl was probably made by the silversmith William Fountain regarding the dating letter in 1818 in London Great Britain. It is made out of 925 Sterling silver and has the weight including the candlesticks of 427 oz. The punch bowl is decorated with the coat of arms of the British family Baring and this punch bowl is related to the title of the Baron of Northbrook (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baron_Northbrook).
This piece is in good condition and there are no serious damages visible.
An estimation would be between 5.000 to 10.000 USD.
This estimation is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.
With best regards,
Georg
No problem and thank you Georg. We posted images of two punch bowls. Could you please confirm which the valuation is for in case we caused some confusion with the images please?
The one with the candlesticks has the hallmarks in a row x4 and is 1818, 237ozs, 7dwts. The previous images I posted showed the sales card detailing from the collection of Lord Rosemore.
The second bowl, oval shape has no candlesticks and the crest on it with the star with motto probitate et labore, 1886, 190ozs, but no visible small hallmarks like the first.
Was your estimate for the 1818 bowl with the four hallmarks or the crest from the 1886 bowl with no smaller marks?
Also, there is some damage to both bowls. One pair of candlesticks from the 1818 bowl has fallen off and there are a few little fractures in the edging of the oval bowl 1886 with no candle sticks.
Look forward to hearing from you.
Richard.

Hi Georg, 1886 silver punch bowl only. This one only has the attached crest that we can see. I have a few more photos but don’t think they demonstrate much more other than the size of the bowl. Thanks.
Dear Richard,
There should be hallmarks on this bowl. Please attach them.
With kind regards,
Georg
Sorry Georg, there are none on this one that we can see on the bowl which is why we are asking based on the crest, year, weight and dimensions. Thanks.
Dear Georg, please see the new attached files. One for the one with candle sticks, 1818, and the other oval bowl, 1886. Thanks. Richard.
