Ceramic or porcelain jug/pitcher. Stands 10 inches high, 9 inches wide at fattest point. Spout, is round (except for an indent from which you pour) and is a lot smaller than the body which is bloated and round. Handle is quite large but does not stand above spout. Floral pattern on cream background with blue floral boarders on top, bottom, and handle. Castle stamp on bottom that says GIEN France underneath it. Cursive writing states something like: "decor [garaintl] inalterable" Under that in capitals is: CUISSON A 1150 PEINT A LA MAIN. Under that there is a signature which looks mostly like a P.
I was given this jug from my grandfather in law who grew up in Costa Rica. His ex-wife was French, and I believe they spent some time in France, where he may have acquired it.
Dear Emily,
Thank you for your request. The presented object is a ceramic or faience jug with the measurements of 10 inches height. This jug is made by the famous company "Gien de France" and the name of the pattern is "Pivoines". This decor is inspired by Chinese porcelain. This jug is stamped and signed by hand by the painter with his monogram.
This piece is in good condition and there are no serious damages visible.
An estimation would be between 30 to 60 USD.
This estimation is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.
With best regards,
Georg
