Hello Shannon,
Thank you for your appraisal inquiry with MeArto. The item presented appears to be an untitled collagraph by listed printmaker Glen Earl Alps (American, 1914 - 1996). Alps brought the developed collagraph method to the main stream and coined the term "collagraph." The inventor of the printing method remains unknown but Alps is thought to be the father of collagraph.
This print appears to be printed in the a la poupée intaglio / collagraph method and depicts groups of open-ended tubes, bacteria, or worms in various clusters and positions on a background of textured columns. The print is signed and dated 1981 to the margin.
The estimate provided is based on recent auction estimates and results of collagraphs in a similar motif by Alps. Thank you. Please stay safe and healthy.
