Alan, Thank you for you inquiry about the British sovereign housed in a gold necklace. Unfortunately, the 1968 sovereign has no numismatic value, only the value of the gold itself (.2354 oz. AGW). Currently, gold is trading at $1297 per oz. The value of the coin is about $300 (US). The 9 karat chain and bezel (as you described) that weighs 5.09 grams has a current value (melt) of $78.Most coin shops/dealers will pay somewhat back of melt as they have to make a small profit.
