Heteromorph Ammonite Fossil

Unlike other varieties of ancient cephalopod, heteromorphs do not show the tight coiling structures. This specimen has been carefully prepared and extracted from its natural limestone rock matrix. It is finely polished and gives great detail of the fossil. The coloring is also vibrant with hues of green, ocher, a deep blue-grey. I believe the image may have been takes while the example was water covered, to allow for the detail of the piece to be visible. I am not able to determine, from the only image shown, if the example is affixed to the stone base; or if it has been relief carved from this stone. But, I do not believe the base is a related section from excavation; as it does not appear to be a sedimentary rock type. Measurements are not give; approximate weight is 4.8 lbs (2150 grams).
