Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
It is a beautiful crocodile vintage Gucci bag. Such crocodile bags are being offered at auction on a regular basis.
Your bag is from the 1960s where crocodile was much used for handbags. Today it is rarely seen. The handbag has a very good size and despite the signs of wear and use I believe it will be able to reach a good selling price should it be put for sale. The price indicates that it may sell for more however I have taken the missing golden 'button' into consideration when estimating the handbag.
The estimate provided is for a well-advertised specialised accessories online auction, where I believe the handbag has the best chance of realising its fullest potential. However, there is no measurement for the sentimental value you might attach to the handbag. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions. I’m happy to help.
Thank you
Hello Allyson,
When you submitted this item for an appraisal, you indicated that you were interested in selling it. This means it automatically entered a marketplace, which is accessed by auction houses actively seeking new items to consign and sell. If there had been any interest, they would have contacted you directly.
As it happens, we'll have some new auction houses joining the database this week, so it is possible that one of them may be interested in your handbag. I will make sure that they see it and know that you motivated to sell. If you haven't heard from one of these auction houses in the next two weeks or so, you might want to try reaching out to a company that specializes in fashion consignment. We recommend: https://www.consigneddesigns.com/. If there's anything else that we can do to help, please just let me know!
All the best,
