I've spent a couple of hours checking the signature against all of the "Hamilton" artists (both first and last names) in several artist databases I've access to but unfortunately have not been able to make a match to any on file. In most cases, that means that the artist has a small body of signed work and simply isn't 'registered' or about whom not much is known.
Is your uncle still alive to provide any additional information about the artist, that might be helpful.
It is not uncommon for works to be unattributed. In cases like this, we typically value based on the similarities in subject, medium and size to other unattributed works offered recently at auction.
