Thank you for the additional information. These are what is known chops or seals and were used to sign documents. The Chinese have used these for thousands of years in offical documents and banking. The seal can either represent an individual person or agency. Yours are hand-carved out of soapstone and were most likely made in the 20th century as a souvenir. The reason for this is that they seldom come in pairs, they were something for an individual and personalized. To this day chops are accepted as a form of official ID. Yours are a pair, one of the lions is male, the one with the ball and the other female, she has a cub at her feet. Guardian Lions, foo dog is the western name given to them by colonials, is meant to bring good luck and protection to the owner.
