Hi Don,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
The market for carved folk art style canes has seen stronger days and while I haven't been able to pinpoint the maker of this particular cane, ones like it have been selling at auction recently for between $250 and $350.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
A near antique carved and polychrome painted Indian Head walking stick
American, probably 1920s-30s
The single-loop handle carved with a red-haired Native American bust over bears' heads, the cylindrical shaft with red-painted rings. Unmarked.
36 inches overall length; handle: 4-1/2 inches wide
CONDITION: This cane appears to be in good condition with minor wear, commensurate to age and use.
PROVENANCE: Acquired from a second-hand store
$ 250-350*
*represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary.
Please let us know if you have additional items to appraise, or questions/concerns, and thank you again for using Mearto.
