Uslysses Grant portrait done during the Civil War and done by Alexander Simplot. Supposedly one of two live sittings he ever did. Only have one photo right now unfortunately.
8x11
Hello Mikel,
Thank you very much for submitting your item for an online appraisal.
The presented object appears to be a framed pencil on paper portrait of General Ulysses S. Grant. It measures 8 x 11 in. and has been attributed to Alexander Simplot, noted illustrator for Harper's Weekly during the American Civil War, due to the presence of a signature on the left side of the composition. The drawing appears to be in good condition with no severe damage visible in the image provided.
Works by this artist were last seen at auction in 2014 when they exceeded the minimum estimates at Swann Galleries:

Given the historical significance and quality of your drawing, I would estimate a conditional current fair market value of $5000 to 8000 USD, though retail and asking prices may vary.
I would recommend that you get in touch with our authentication research team to discuss what steps might be taken to confirm the authenticity of this piece, so that it could be sold as an original at auction, if that's the route that you wish to take.
