Hello Lynn,
I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal,
Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Knotted Turkish Milas Rug. The piece does not date back to the periods you've suggested but it was rather made from 1980 to 1995. The piece is in characteristic style of the Milas pieces and also deorated with it's classical industrialised pattern from the last quarter of the 20th century. Milas rugs have been produced in the Muğla province of Turkey starting from the 16th century, although the patterns significantly changes from a rug to the other, most of the motifs are inherited from previous centuries. This piece of yours is decorated semi-centrally with three chest on it's central area while one of the chests is acting as a central medallion with it's pale yellow colour. The piece has sun exposure to it's surface as well as signes of possible traditional washing attempts, the colours are faded due to this and note the age. The piece is mostly florally decorated, the central area is knotted on a red pale base while the borders are knotted on ivory and saffron base. This pieces are native to Aegean Region which provides many similarities with Çanakkale and Balıkesir Rugs. The piece is knotted wool on wool. The embossed styled pattern is a obvious indicator of the last quarter of the 20th century for a Milas piece. The piece is in fair condition with visible signes of use and sun exposure to the surface as well as considerable loss to the fringes.
