Hi Keri,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Both of your lamps have the shape and hand-hammered quality characteristic of lamps by Dirk Van Erp (1862–1933), a Dutch-American artisan known for his work in the Arts and Crafts movement, particularly for his hammered copper lamps and metalwork. He emigrated from the Netherlands to the United States and eventually settled in San Francisco, where he established his workshop. His work is highly regarded for its craftsmanship, use of high-quality materials, and distinctive designs featuring riveted copper and mica shades. Many of his pieces are now highly collectible, with original Dirk Van Erp lamps fetching high prices at auctions. For a view of his mark, see here: https://kovels.com/antique-collectibles-prices/dirk-van-erp.
Without a mark, these lamps - while still attractive and fully functional - do not have the same level of value as original marked examples, worth about $300-5000 each.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
Two Dirk van Erp style hand-hammered metal table lamps
20th Century
The smaller of vasiform shape with bulging top and narrower circular foot, the smaller of bulbous design tapering at both ends; both with vertical metal straps with riveted details. Both mounted with broad conical glass shades. Both seemingly unmarked.
The larger: 26 inches high by 20 inches diameter
The smaller: 19 inches high by 15 inches diameter
CONDITION: One lamp with small chip to shade; otherwise, both appear to be in generally good condition.
PROVENANCE: Inherited
$300-$500 each or $600-$1000 for the two together*
