Herman Schnitzmeyer hand colored portrait "chief Koostata"
Print dimensions are 19" by 22 3/4" Frame appears original. Hand Colored Print by L. Desch Art Co. of H. Schnitzmeyer's "Chief Koostata". Date on back reads 1927 but copyright by signature doesn't have a date. Print is in excellent condition, although the frame is showing its age.
I purchased the Photo at an Estate Sale, Previous owner was likely Dr. G. H. Gordon of Polson Mt. whom apparently had an appraisal done 7/1/ 1970 valuing it at $50.00, otherwise no known history.

I might add that the Chiefs traditional name is Koostatah, Herman just didn't get the spelling correct. Koostatah was the last official "Chief" of the lower Kootenai Tribe (Montana) before the Confederated Salish Kootenai tribes adopted a Tribal Council form of Government.
