What does this mean?

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry, and I apologize for the delay. This is a mid 19th century "screw barrel" percussion pocket pistol made in London. It would be loaded by turning off the barrel and placing the charge and projectile on the breech-face, and then screwing the barrel back on. These were popular defensive pistols during this time period. This particular piece is in distressed condition. The original finish of the metal is worn off, and has been replaced by a dark patina, with some active corrosion near the flash-hole. The wood grips are in good shape, with most of the checkering still present. The rear tang screw appears to have been replaced with a modern galvanized screw and the trigger guard has been broken off. The lock appears to be in functioning order. Given the condition of this piece, and completed auctions of similar items, a fair market estimation is 150-160 dollars. Please reach out with any questions.
