Dear Jana,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. Your collection of Hummels date from between 1939-1972 and appear to be in good condition. The oldest figurine is "Wayside Harmony," the boy sitting on the fence, which dates from 1939-1949, and the latest figurine is Book Worm ( the boy), which dates between 1960-1972. Hummel figurines were based on the drawing of Sister Maria Innocentia Hummel (1909-1946). She was a German Franscian Nun who was studying art at the Academy of Applied Arts in Münich before becoming a nun in 1931. She taught at a school run by the convent and would spend her spare time drawing the children. Her drawings were first published as postcards, and in 1934, they were compiled into a book, "Das Hummel-Buch," in which poems by Margarete Seemann accompanied her illustrations. These works brought her to the attention of Franz Gobel, who obtained the exclusive rights to produce porcelain figurines based on her work. Their popularity grew in the United States when returning soldiers bought the home. Based on recent price realizations, the fair market value for your figurine would be between 150 and 250US dollars, for the collection.
Best Regards,
Morgan
