I would describe this as a decorated dueling pistol. It may be a replica for all I know.

Description

My Grandfather always had this in the basement, with some other collectables, ever since I can remember. I am nearly 50yrs old and have been keeping it stored for decades. My knowledge of firearms is limited so please forgive and correct if I use wrong terms*. The barrel is removable via 2 little sliders which lock it into the cradled wooden lower part. It has pretty metal inlay decorations, which are thin. It has some damage as seen in pics, in multiple spots- most notably on the wooden part<on one side, where slider pin slide), and on part of the hammer. The only stamped in metal markings are very hard to make out entirely but are definitely there and visible - I just don’t know what they indicate, nor do I know even what language it is. The pics will show this better. But that’s the only sort of makers mark of any sort that I can find. I’ll alsonote that the hammer/trigger mechanisms do not SEEM to be working properly, but that may be my ignorance. Guessing that it weighs maybe a couple of Lbs.

Dimensions

Length is 20” , curved*. The barrel is 12”.The opening of barrel is 5/8”

What does this mean?

Dear Michael,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. My sincere apologies for the delay with the appraisal.

The presented object appears to be a probable Russian flintlock mechanism lock. The pistol was made in the late 18th or 19th century and has brass scrollwork decoration. The letters on the lockplate appear to be Cyrillic letters-
Comparable objects were recently offered and sold on the international auction market.
This piece is in medium condition and no severe damage is visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 150 to 350 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.

With kind regards,
Gregory
