Hello - this bust is approx 23" high, 16" wide and 10" deep. It was bequeathed to us - not sure where to look for any identifying "marking" - perhaps on the base? I'm attaching copies of the notes I was given
It was made in 1865 - the artist died in 1886
Dear Liza,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. So that I may best assist you, can you please have a look if this bust is signed. Mostly the signature would be not on the base and on the reverse side of the bust itself. Help yourself with a flashlight to higher the contrast.
I am very sure that an elaborate worked bust like this is signed.
With kind regards,
Georg
Hi. I've attached Several photos showing the signature. It is clearly labeled with his name and the year 1865
Dear Liza,
Thank you for the additional images and your patience. This detail is very important and makes a huge difference in the estimation.
The presented object appears to be marble bust with the measurements of approx 23" high, 16" wide and 10" deep. The bust depicts the portrait of a young boy with a coat over his shoulder. The artwork is signed by the Italian sculptor Ignazio MICOTTI (?-1886) and dated 1865.
This piece is in good condition and there are no serious damages visible.
An estimation would be between 2.000 to 4.000 USD.
This estimation is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.
With kind regards,
Georg
Thank you. I will look for it and advise
