An antique Empire Revival gilt metal and marble inkstand
French, late 19th Century
The rectangular variegated black and white marble stand surmounted by a wingspread eagle on a plinth with applied gilt metal laurel wreath, fitted with two gilt metal cannisters, the marble stand with carved well and molded edge, fitted with gilt metal feet. Unmarked.
12 inches high, 21-1/4 inches wide, 11-1/2 deep
CONDITION: This inkstand appears to be in generally good condition
PROVENANCE: Unknown

These are worth and sell for over 5k. I'm not quite sure, but the last 2 appraisals have been significantly off. Both on values and origins.
Mearto's valuations are based on fair market/auction values, not retail prices, which yes, would be (much) higher.
Comparable examples I found for each inkwell/stand appraisal - this and the other one with the cow head - supported what I wrote but if you've found better related examples, please send me the links so I can revisit and update accordingly. We take each appraisal seriously and want to provide the best possible customer service but it's possible we can't see everything all the time.
