Hi Taji,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Yervand Nahapetian (1916–2006) was a prominent Iranian-Armenian painter celebrated for his mastery of watercolor and his significant role in shaping the contemporary Isfahan watercolor school. Born in New Julfa, the Armenian quarter of Isfahan, Iran, he began painting at the age of seven. He studied under notable artists such as Sarkis Khachatourian, Alexander Narsesian (an Italian-Armenian painter), and Hossein Mosavarol-Molki, which laid the foundation for his artistic development.
His work is characterized by vivid colors and a realist style that emphasizes Iranian cultural identity. His subjects often include scenes from Isfahan's architecture, nomadic life, still lifes, and miniatures. He also incorporated elements of Persian miniature painting into his watercolors, reflecting his deep appreciation for traditional Iranian art forms.
Throughout his career, Nahapetian's artworks were exhibited both domestically and internationally. His paintings have been featured in various auctions, including Bonham’s, Van Ham, Tehran Auction, and Iran’s National Auction.
Nahapetian's Isphahan watercolors of similar size and composition have sold at auction recently for prices ranging from $1,200-1,800.
