It's part of a fossilized bone
About 11 inches long and 6 inches wide
Petrified Wood Slab
Miocene, Pliocene, or Pleistocene epochs (ranging from about 23 million to 10,000 years ago)
North American, Florida
Approximate measurements: 11" Length X 6" Width; 5lbs
An example of petrified wood, sourced by the current owner. Found in several regions of Florida, notably in the Bone Valley Formation (Polk, Hillsborough, and Hardee Counties), along rivers like the Peace, Suwannee, and St. Johns, and in phosphate mining areas. Common genera include Pinus (pine) and Quercus (oak), though exact species identification often requires microscopic analysis of cellular structure. Florida’s petrified wood is often preserved through permineralization, where silica replaces organic material, retaining details like tree rings. This example is unpolished and raw. An unpolished piece might appeal to purists or those interested in the fossil’s natural state.
Florida’s fossils are less famous than those from states like Arizona (e.g., Petrified Forest National Park), but they hold scientific and collector value due to their association with the state’s rich Cenozoic fossil record and unique preservation conditions.
The legality of collecting petrified wood varies based on the location and jurisdiction. In the United States, for example, collecting petrified wood is prohibited in national parks and monuments. Please review laws and regulations in the of selling petrified wood.

Hi, Austin,
May I ask the source of your example? From images it does appear to be a possible animal bone, animal fossil, coral fossil, or geologic based example.
May I also request and approximate weight?
More descriptive information would be appreciated.
Also, If this was found without a matirx (surrounding embedded stone), I do believe it would be geologic and not biologic in origin.
Thank you
From my scale it's between 5.005-5.029 pounds. I found it in southern Florida(sand/dirt) it has little porous holes inside each socket hole which gave me the idea that it's an animal bone. I hope this helps
