This is a large, ornate wall mirror made by La Barge, an American luxury décor brand known for high-end handcrafted mirrors. The piece is labeled “Made in Italy for La Barge Mirrors” with style code RL-536-E000 and installation label 1536-T, indicating authentic Italian production. The frame appears to be hand-carved wood with a gold gilt finish in a Rococo/Baroque revival style, featuring deep relief carving, scrollwork, and acanthus leaf motifs. The mirror glass is original and securely mounted. Overall condition is very good for age, with expected light patina and minor wear to the gilt finish consistent with vintage carved giltwood surfaces. No major structural damage observed. This appears to be a premium, designer-grade La Barge piece likely produced between the 1970s and 1990s.
56" x 31" at highest points of frame. Mirror roughly 31" long.
Hi Renee,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
According to the 1stDibs website, LaBarge Mirrors, Inc. was founded in 1962 by William LaBarge Sr. LaBarge acquired the residential mirror division of Donnelly Mirrors (formerly Donnelly-Kelley Glass Company) in Holland, Michigan. Over the years, the company changed ownership: sold to Masco Corporation in 1987. Later, in 2013, Heritage Home Group bought LaBarge. Most recently (2018), LaBarge (along with other brands) was acquired by Rock House Farm (RHF Investments) in North Carolina. The company specialized in Revival styles - Colonial, Classical and Hollywood Regency, among others.
While these mirrors would have been comparatively costly to purchase new, they have not retained their value as antiques and most ones of this size and style usually sell between $200 and $700; given the condition of this, it would likely sell for between $400 and $600.
