Itzachak Tarkay " Bare Essentials" mixed media on paper
Dear Melissa Stover,
Thank you for your appraisal submission. The work is a mixed media painting on paper by Itzchak Tarkay (Israeli, 1935-2012). The images provided do not allow for close examination of the work, but based on the artist's other media uses this work is possibly an ink and watercolor or serigraph and watercolor on paper. The work is titled "Bare Essentials" and depicts a nude woman seated next to a table with a floral centerpiece. It is signed to the lower right corner. The work is in good condition with slight warping in the frame. The dimensions were not provided.
Tarkay was born in present-day Serbia, and brought to a concentration camp with his family at nine years old. Upon surviving, his family immigrated to Israel where he received a scholarship to pursue art. Tarkay's practice was heavily influenced by French Impressionism and Post-Impressionism. He became a well-known commercial artist, producing paintings and prints of brightly colored women seated at cafes and bars. The value of Tarkay's works are primarily dependent on size and medium with his large-scale original paintings valued highest. Looking at sales trends, we estimate the Fair Market Value of this work between $200 and $500.
Due to many of Tarkay's works being embellished prints, this appraisal is conditional based on a supposed original signature. A physical examination of the work will determine the state and medium.
Thank you for your appraisal submission.
Kind regards,
Charlotte B.
