Original oil painting signed on the front and titled and signed again on the back 21”x 171/2” with original gold colored frame, the painting itself is 16”x12”. The painting is in excellent condition but the frame has some chips out of it.
This artwork was hanging in an old farm house in Upstate New York and was given to me when the owner was selling the house to move to an adult living home. He had told me it was a painting he inherited and I have owned this piece for 18 years.
This is an antique, 19th century, Victorian era, original framed oil on canvas painting by British artist, John Gunson Atkinson (1819 - 1915). The title Nr the Robin Hood - Loughton, likely refers to the Robin Hood pub that is on the edge of the Epping Forest in Loughton in England. The dark palette may actually be because of bitumen mixed in the paint which does darken over time. The estimate is for catalogue auction sale and is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail 'asking prices' can be higher and vary. Insurance and estate tax purpose appraisals will also vary and are not provided here.
You are very welcome!
Thanks Nora! I appreciate the information you have given me. It’s always been a really cool painting...I’m actually glad it’s only worth something to me :)
