I have several paintings by Jackie Conkwright. He was my uncle and passed away leaving me with some of his paintings and belongings. He lived on Sullivans Island in Charleston where some of these paintings were painted. The first painting from Charleston is one that was on exhibit at an art show at Davidson College many years ago. I have saved the newspaper clipping etc. on the back of the painting.
My uncle had art shows in many places in the United States and some out of the states. His paintings range from large pieces to very small paintings and textures.
Good morning, Elizabeth,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. So that I may best assist you, can you please confirm the size (height and width) of the painting?
Also, is this on canvas? artist board? paper?
Thanks!
Delia
Thanks so much, Elizabeth, for confirming the medium and dimensions.
In most cases, works are more valuable individually, particularly if the subject matter is different. They should be sold together if they are part of a set, like a pair of portraits.
Jack Russ Conkwright (American, 1925-2016) has not had any recorded sales at auction, making it a bit difficult to valuate this. Typically, for artists that do not have a proven track record at auction, we evaluate based on sales of unattributed works of comparable size, medium and genre or topic. I will say that works by Southern artists are fairly hot right now and if you want to sell these, you might want to work with an auction house that sells works by Southern artists.
Based on the photographs and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
Jack Russ Conkwright (Southeastern American, 1925-2016)
Lakeside landscape, second half 20th century
oil on artists board
17 by 17 1/2 inches
signed CONKWRIGHT lower right
CONDITION: not examined in person but appears to be in good condition, commensurate with age.
PROVENANCE: inherited
$250-350*
*represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary.
Please let us know if you have additional items to appraise, and thank you for using Mearto.
I am really shocked by appraisal. A lot of my uncles art went for 40,000 plus dollars. He had several galleries where he displayed his art and shows. I will definitely reach out to other appraisers. Thank you for your time.
It is on artist board. The height is 17 inches and the width is 17 1/2 inches.
I also wanted you to know I have several paintings from Jack Russ Conkwright. Some are oil paintings, some on canvas, etc.I don't know if the value is better together or sold separately. Thank you for all your help.
