What does this mean?

Good morning, Margo,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.

This is a beautiful Court Cupboard! It's difficult to know what the provenance to Engineers Club in Baltimore would add to it if you opted to sell so I have based my valuation on comparable cupboards that have sold recently to establish a baseline value - the additional provenance could improve on that price at auction.

Based on the photographs and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:

A Renaissance Revival or Jacobean Style carved oak court cupboard
American or English, circa 1875
With outstepped ends, the heavily carved and molded cornice supported on fluted Corinthian colonettes, the back with relief carved panels depicting military figures, the cupboard section with outset ends with cupboards behind relief-carved doors opening to a shelved interior, centering an open shelved area, with guilloche and acanthus decoration allover, all raised on bracket feet.
94 inches tall by 81 inches wide by 25 inches deep
CONDITION: Not examined in person. Client represents this to be in good condition. Bottom doors do not close all the way, some cracks in panels, have missing piece from lower left side base.
PROVENANCE: Purchased from the Engineers Club in Baltimore in the 1940's.
$$2,000-3,000
