Jamini Roy was a pioneering Indian modernist painter, best known for his unique approach to folk and indigenous art styles. Trained in academic realism at the Government College of Art & Craft in Kolkata, he later moved away from Western techniques and developed a distinct style inspired by Bengali folk traditions, particularly Kalighat painting. His works often feature bold lines, flat colors, and stylized human forms, making his art highly sought after among collectors.
Slate engravings are a rare form within his body of work, as most of his known works were on canvas or board using tempera. If authenticated, this piece could be a highly valuable and unique addition to Jamini Roy’s oeuvre.
