Green two handled ceramic vase approx 35 cm high. No stamp underneath just 3 gold brushstrokes. Silhouettes of dancing figures in background.. gold embossed larger figures on front and a mountain scene on the back. Am interested in what these designs mean / symbolise as well as possible era and value.
Was gifted to a friends grandmother ( between 1940 - 1950) by a Chinese war bride whose life she had saved.
Thank you for submitting your item for appraisal. This appears to be a japanese Satsuma vase made for export according to foreign tastes in the 1880s-1900, decorated with slip glaze and enamel colours. This type of satsuma ware was made for the home decor market in the west.
There never was a japanese demand for such, the same applies for serious collectors of japanese art in the west. The estimate is based on similar offered or sold at auction. There is no measurement for the sentimental value you might attach to it.
