What does this mean?

Hello Susan,

Thank you for your appraisal inquiry with Mearto. The item presented appears to be a woodblock after Katsushika Hokusai (葛飾 北斎, Japanese, 1760 – 1849), titled "The Great Wave Off Kanagawa" (神奈川沖浪裏). The image was the first published work from the artist's series "Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji" (富嶽三十六景), during early 1830s. Based on the images provided, the print appears to date to the early to mid 20th century. The estimate provided is based on recent auction estimates and results of this work as a posthumous reproduction woodblock, dating to the 20th century, depending on dimensions. The estimate is contingent on a full condition report. Please note asking or dealer prices may vary. Thank you and please take care.
