What does this mean?

Hello Nicholas,

Thank you for your appraisal inquiry with Mearto. The item presented appears to be woodblock by Keisai Eisen (渓斎 英泉, Japan, 1790 – 1848) titled "Shimada Station" (Shimada shuku). The print is number 24 from an untitled series of the Fifty-three Stations of the Tôkaidô Road. The work was published by Tsutaya Kichizô (Kôeidô), Japan, 1830s. It is important to note that these woodblocks were reprinted throughout the early 20th century. An in-person examination of the print may confirm the date of this print and it's authenticity.

The estimate provided is based on recent auction estimates and results of this work and other comparable lifetime woodblocks by Keisai Eisen. Please note asking or dealer prices may vary. Thank you and please take care.
